A Hairy Sunday

Had an early morning Breakfast date, with Chads friends who were in town for the weekend. We came back home and I lazed around a bit before going out and getting my hair did by Miss Marlee J. No special reason, other then to have a little fun and let Marlee practice on a real person and not just a mannequin head. After it was all said and done, we went down stairs where  found a little photo area set up. So we grabbed our cameras, headed down, and took advantage!

Since I had to get up quite early (7:30 to be exact!), the one thing I was in the mood for was a big comfy sweater. This great stripped one from American Eagle was the perfect fit! I bought it during a big sale last year because I loved the colour and the style, but it was two sizes too big, so I bought it with the intention of doing some alterations. I adjusted the neckline so it would hang down naturally, almost like a cowl neck, but I couldn’t adjust the side seams because of the way they had been sewn. I contemplated what to do with it, until I realized, despite being two sizes two big (according to the label) it actually didn’t fit me too bad. A little loose, but it kind of hung about in a fun way. So I figured I would let it be, and just wear a long white t-shirt underneath, since the fact that it was too big caused it to moved around and flash my stomach a lot. The plan seemed to work!

I paired it with my comfy Mavi Jeans and my favoirte Checkered Vans to compleat my comfy Sunday look.

The hair adds a bit of funk and class to the outfit which I love.

It’s like Rock Star Wedding Hair. Hahaha!

The Sleepover

Stayed over at my cousins house last night after dinner and drinks. It made sense to leave the boys at the pub and head home early to watch a movie and have a pillow fight before going to bed (HA). We spent the morning attending a wedding dress fitting and the afternoon looking for bridesmaids dresses at the mall.

Because I was going to be attending a sleepover, and was then going to be shopping all day, I didn’t plan an exciting outfit. Instead I threw a t-shirt and sweater into a bag and headed out. This means my bottom half is just a repeat of yesterday.

My plaid CANUCK t-shirt is from The Bay and, as you may have guessed, is part of their Olympic Merch. If this shirt doesn’t scream ‘DANIELLE’ I don’t know what does. Red plaid on a grey t-shirt that says Canuck. Perfection. The shirt was part of a Christmas present the In-Laws got me and today was the first time I wore it. The fabric in this t-shirt is amazing and it is so comfy. I love good quality t-shirt fabric.

The sweater is from Plum, and I seem to be gravitating to it quite a bit since I’ve already worn it 3 times this year. I think I wear it so much because it is something different then just wearing the same old black sweater over everything. Plus, I love layering shades of grey.

The scarf is also from Plum and was purchased Fall 08. It is knit from two different yarns, so the scarf has great texture.

The bottom, you know, Mavi Serena Denim Leggings in Navy, and my faux Fryes.

Now it’s time to catch up on the sleep I missed out on last night ;)

Where People go to do Drugs and Walk Dogs

At lunch time Alicia and I ran up to the little park across the street from work. We don’t go there often because there are usually strange people doing strange things in this ‘park’. You do see the occasional dog walker and cute family, but mostly it’s sketchy people. But the sun was out today, and the park was empty, so we took our chances!

I’m Mavi head to toe today. My top is made from a light weight double sided gauzy plaid. On the inside it is white and red checks, which is super cute and like my own little surprise since no one sees it. I love the blue lace applique on the front too. A very nice feminine contrast to the plaid. As well, the pin tucks down the centre add some great texture. I’ve had a lot of compliments when I wear this top and I absolutely love it!

I paired the top with my Navy denim leggings, since they perfectly go together, and my faux Fryes, to give the outfit that rough edge that only Fryes can achieve.

My necklace I purchased at Plum before I found the other metal heart necklace at Forever 21. What I love about this one is the contrast between the very delicate detail work, and the fact that it is made of metal. It reflects nicely with the contrast of the top as well, and adds interest being layered over the dedicated lace applique.

I kind of feel like a hippie in this outfit and I should be driving a VW Bus. Hahaha!

Tonight we are going out for dinner and drinks with friends. We’ll see if I change it up a bit for tonight, or if I’m too lazy to do so.

Inspiration: Goat Feet

Posted by Danielle Ciavarro under Inspiration

Ms. Shazzi B sent me this.

Something to strive for the next time you go hunting.

They don’t bother me as much as they did everyone in the office, but maybe that’s because I have no soul. That, or my Nonno use to have a cane made out of a goats foot, so I’m use to it.

It is a bit weirder to see someone actually wear them.

But I thought they were interesting none the less.

Purple is My Heart

I’m in heels, that aren’t boots, on a Thursday, at work. Shocking I know, but sometimes you just feel like dressing up a bit!

Purple was my colour of the day. Have to say that I love wearing it. I don’t own much purple, but this top has really inspired me to invest a little more.

My purple deep V ruched top is from Plum. It’s ruched down the center front and all along the side seams so it adds visual interest, and hides any ‘stomach issues’ you might be worried about. Plus the colour is so bright that it adds a great pop to any outfit.

I layered the top over my classic white ‘Mans Undershirt’, which, after viewing these pictures, made me remember something. A strip of white at your widest part will ALWAYS make it look bigger then it really is. Funny that I’ve never thought of this before, considering I usually wear a white shirt under most of my tops. But I guess since I’ve never really thought of my ‘widest part’ being all that wide I’ve never been concerned. That is, until now.

But back to the outfit.

The large grey cocoon sweater is from Kersh. Light weight, super long, and totally fun. It is a great fashion piece to throw over any outfit, and even looks great belted. I love having this in my wardrobe.

My jeans are from Dish. Trouser jeans with quarter top pockets. They are hemmed specifically for these ankle booties that I have so when it’s cold, they are my only choice in footwear. In the warmer months however, I do have quite a few pairs of heals and wedges that work nicely with them. I love the way these jeans fit me.

My favorite necklace. Purchased at, you guessed it, Forever 21.

Love, Love, Love!

Fashion Question: What Shoes Do I Wear?

Posted by Danielle Ciavarro under Fashion Questions

So, as some of you may know, this coming Fall I will be spending one month traipsing around the mother land, also known as Italy. In discussing with my family just how much traveling within the country we will be doing, I began to realize that lugging around 5 suit cases full of fabulous fashion is not going to be an option. I am going to have to limit myself to one LARGE suite case and one small carry on. This means that I will need to bring versatile pieces that can be combined with many things to make fun and interesting outfits.

Now, the one problem I always have when traveling is foot wear. I have certain shoes for certain outfits and if I take a handful of outfits that all go with different shoes, then I feel this need to bring all 10 pairs so that each outfit is set perfectly. We all know that shoes take up the most room in a suit case so I don’t really want to give up valuable realistate to 10 pairs of shoes, when I could fit in 10 more outfits.

So, I have come to the conclusion that I need to find some shoes that are versatile, comfortable, and fashionable. If I’m going to be running around shopping, visiting, and going on tours, I’m going to have to have some footwear that doesn’t kill my feet. My main goal is to find some sandals that offer support yet look beautiful. I have heard a few things about Birkenstocks but I don’t know really know that much about them. I’ve looked at a couple things online, but I can’t seem to find any prices and I’m a tad concerned that they might cost me an arm and a leg. I also don’t know exactly what I should pack and what I’m going to need. There is a whole lot of confusion in my head right now.

So here in lies my shoe questions…

  1. How many pairs of shoes should I bring?
  2. What style of shoes should I bring?
  3. If you were to suggest a sandal for me to wear while traveling that offers versatility, comfort, and fashion, what would it be?

Bringing Back Ninety Five

Red plaid is probably my all time favorite plaid. This Buffalo Plaid Hoodie falls right up there with the greatest inventions since sliced bread. Back in high school, Chads jacket of choice was made from the exact same plaid. It surpasses generations. You may also remembered this hoodie from the following post.

Chad bought me this hoodie for Christmas a couple years back, straight out of the mouth of Urban Outfitters. To say I love it would be an understatement.

I wore this hoodie today, simple layered over a white t-shirt, layered under a grey t-shirt. Remember, layering adds dimension, and I am a huge fan of that.

Despite the colour contrast of the photos, I am not wearing the Black Serena Denim Leggings, but actually the Navy Blue ones. They are so dark, it’s hard to tell the difference some times. That’s the problem with Navy and Black.

The camera necklace I bought at Forever 21 in LA. I bought a lot of necklaces at Forever 21 in LA, just before they opened one up here in Vancouver.

My faux Fryes finish the look, and I’m ready to be transported back to 1995 to hang out with Eddie Vedder.

Short and Sweet.

In a Daze

Just got back from dinner at the parentals. We had a mini meeting about our trip to Italy in the Fall. So many details to hash out. If only we could get our dates straight!

In remenising about past family trips, I realized that I was actually wearing a top that I bought on our last big family vacation to Australia. We spent a month their visiting lots of family and friends. It was technically fall in Australia, but I didn’t expect it to be as cold as it was, so I was unprepared clothing wise. Luckily I was able to pick up a couple of pieces to ‘keep me warm’ while I was down under.

I bought this top from the infamous Australian shop Just Jeans. I ended up buying a lot of stuff from Just Jeans. I kind of fell in love with it back then. I loved the boat neck and the print on the front of this top, that makes no sense to me. There is even patch work done over top of the screen print. This top was a big inspiration to me during my 4th year studies in University and I used this inspiration in a lot of my final collection.

In the warmer months I usually wear this top with a single wife beater underneath so that my shoulders show through a little more and the shirt has the ability to hand off one shoulder. Now, it’s too cold to do that so I just wore a basic white scoop neck t-shirt with it. This way you get some interesting layering going on (not that you can really see with all my hair), and you show a bit more skin through the neck.

I was all about wearing pearls with things in 2006 (back when we went to Australia) so everytime I wear this top I am automatically drawn to wearing it with a string of pearls. I like the contrast between the classy necklace, and rough edged top.

Paired with my Yoga Jeans and flat Black Boots and I felt like I was living in the past!

The Spotted Ballerina

I felt like a Ballerina, when I looked in the mirror today. Must have been the Black Denim Leggings and Mary Jane flats.

Last nights storm must have carried into this mornings work day, because there was an endless amount of all of us running around and trying things on, and then more running and more trying. It was quite the whirlwind!

Despite all the rain this morning, I decided to center my outfit around my flats. I needed a change from all the boot wearing.

I started off with a fun printed silk blouse from Kensie that I bought a few years ago for Valentines Day. The blouse is adorable, except for the giant poofy sleeves they decided to add to it. I didn’t realize just how bad the sleeves were until after I bought it and tried it on again. Kind of sucks, but I just wear a sweater over top and no one is the wiser. It would be cute to wear sweater-less, but that would involve some altering.

I covered up my tacky sleeves with a black sweater that drapes in the front and has lightly rouched sleeves.

I layered the Kensie blouse and sweater combo over a white cami. I often find that blouses aren’t long enough for me and hit me in weird places, depending on their length. I am quite long waisted which means I usually have to layer things in order for the top I am wearing to draw your eye to the right part of my body. It also a comfort thing about not having my stomach show when I move around.

Black denim leggings were an obvious choice for me when putting together this outfit.

No jewels today. Just simple and black and spotted.

Had I worn heals, my legs would have looks 10 times longer then they do with my long torso and flat shoes. Way to make myself look stumpy! At least I was comfortable ;)

I’m not really from Southern California

Yes, I realize I look like a Vampire Drug Addict in the last photo. I was playing with the colour contrast too much and didn’t realize how bad it looked until now. The file is at work and I can’t edit it. Oh well!

I also need to stop giving ‘face’ in every photo.

I spent the majority of the day, on the couch watching the Sex and the City movie, which makes me cry every single time. I am a sucker for dramatic love stories. Enter in Sense and Sensibility, my ultimate favorite.

We headed out to the in-laws for a casual Sunday night dinner and I was feeling a bit of the Sunday afternoon laze, so there was no stepping up my outfit. But it’s ok, because I rarely EVER dress this lacks for a dinner at the in -aws. It was my turn to be comfy.

I’m really lacking jeans these days. I have a ‘ton’ of skinnies but not really much variety in the ‘basic flared/boot cut department’, so I tend to fall into the same pair every single time. Today was no different. My Mavi jeans with back flap pockets did the trick, since the only other ones I have are the ones with all the rips in the back. I didn’t want to de-class my outfit that much.

I have this obsession that when I go to the states I have to go to Hollister and either buy a basic graphic T or a hoodie, because I adore the fabrics that they use. Soo soft. Even though we have a Hollister here in Vancouver I won’t go to it. Hollister is only special to me if I get it in America. I don’t even know why I love Hollister so much. It really can’t be explained. Both my hoodie, and my t-shirt from the ellusive Southern California hot spot.

I have checkered Vans that go with every outfit. This one is obviously a Vans outfit.

Enter in the theme song to The OC.
