Tights & Shorts

So we have all seen this trend at some point in our lives. I’ve seen quite a few people lately pulling off the whole ‘Tights & Shorts’ phenomenon, and every time I see it I get inspired and want to try it, but it’s a matter of pairing the right shorts, with the right tights, with the right shoes, and there is something very daunting about that.

Finally I got my butt in gear and decided to just try it out!

I bought these great shorts last September in LA from a store called Heritage 1981, which is owned by the same company as Forever 21. I’ve often found it hard buying shorts because a lot of them never fit me properly and I always have trouble finding the right length for my proportions. I finally found these beauties and fell in love.

I paired the shorts with some basic black tights I bought at Plum and my Faux Fryes.

On top I wore a grey t-shirt from Espirt and a purple ribbed waist cardigan from Kersh, paired with a fun multi coloured scarf from Le Chateau.

I thought it turned out pretty good. I want to buy some printed tights and try that next time as well.

I quite like the idea of tights and shorts now that I’ve tried it out. I think paired with the right top and shoes it can be a fun and stylish use of shorts in the winter months!

Grey Lace

It was such a beautiful day outside today. The office got so warm that I didn’t even need a sweater. Who would have thought that was possible in the middle of February?

Alicia and I headed outside to take some pictures this afternoon. Our plan was to shoot some by this fire hydren down the block, but as we got there, this guy in coverals and grease came out at the same time. I think he was working on his car or something. Well, he saw the two of us and decided to call us over and whistle. We weren’t too impressed, and kind of freaked out, so we kept walking. Luckily we found this empty parking lot with an amazing wall to take photos in front of. Thankfully the guy didn’t follow us, but he was there waiting, this time with a buddy, while we walked back to the office. Creepy!

I wore one of our new Spring blouses today. This one is from a new company that we are buying from called Trinity. They make awesome blouses! I love the lace detail on the front and back of this one. The flutter sleeves are fun and feminine too.

I wore a white cami under it because I seem to be buying and wearing a lot of tops that need a bit more coverage and layering. When it gets hotter out I might try getting away with just wearing a black bra underneath, though I do like the layering affect of wearing the cami.

I paired this with my ever favorite, Navy Denim Leggings and my brown boots.

My necklace is a silver bird charm that I bought at Plum last Spring. I also stole the sunglasses from Alicia!

Suit It Up

The energy in the office was weird today. I don’t know how to explain it but it left me with a pit in my stomach for most of the day. At the same time, I am known to over react, a bit.

The sun came out in the afternoon, which always makes it nice for picture taking, and Canada did win their second Gold Medal, so that was also pretty cool.

I finally busted out the cropped Suit Jacket with rolled cuffs today. I love this jacket. I love the way it fits and just how versatile it really is. You can pretty much wear this jacket over anything and it would look good!

Underneath it, I wore this beautiful white t-shirt from Esprit. It has a button placket and a chiffon insert which adds such a beautifully delicate touch to an otherwise simple shirt. The t-shirt is a bit see through and a tad on the short side, so I wore a white cami underneath it, just to give it a base.

I found this thin blue hankerchief scarf in my closet a few years ago. Not sure where it came from, but I threw it on today to give my outfit a little bit of colour. It adds some interest to an otherwise monotone look, though even with out it, everything still looks great.

I took my Yoga Jeans and rolled the cuff underneath so that it wouldn’t show (unlike how I usually wear them) and kept it simple by pairing them with my flat Mary Jane’s.

Overall, it’s a very casual yet put together look and is something that can easily be changed just by throwing on a different t-shirt and pair of shoes.

Everyone needs to invest in a great suit jacket!

Pink and Fuzzy

Today was one of those days where I woke up and I had no idea what to wear or what I was doing or what was going on. My mind was totally blank. I call that a Monday Morning alright. It might have been the fact that I had a little bit of a Red Wine headache, and Chad had to get up at 5:30 so my sleep was totally disturbed. I was totally being whiney when he woke me up, haha!

So my Monday Morning Disaster consisted of the purple Plum top that I’ve worn before. The one that is all rouched and cute. Yes, that one, exactly! I layered it with a white cami, because you know I am obsessed with doing that. I threw on top my grey Kersh Boyfriend Cardigan with the 3/4 sleeves. This is the sweater that I also wear as a dress sometimes.

I was freezing cold so I grabbed this giant chunky scarf I bought from Bootlegger when I use to work there, many, many moons ago. It is very warm and cozy and was at the height of my PINK obsession. Everything I owned was pink. It was very strange. Anyways, it worked well because the yarn has lots of different shades of pink in it, as well as purple. It kept me warm and looked fun.

I wore my silver bulls horned necklace as well, just as some visual interest to the middle of my top, and to break up all the colour with something silver.

As for my bottoms, I wore my Mavi Jeans and my grey sparkle flats that I actually got at Walmart. They were 10 dollars and pretty cute which made it very worth it!

Kind of a random outfit for a Monday Morning, but then what more do you expect from me on a Monday!

Valentines Day!

Well, it is the day of love! The day all single people hate, and all couples feels obligated to participate in. We keep traditions simple in the Ciavarro house hold, and always use the day as an excuse to go out for dinner and eat chocolate. We don’t buy each other gifts, but instead exchange cards and chocolates, and usually a heart shaped cookie or two. I usually bake something yummy for dessert and then we head out for a simple dinner in the evening. This year, Chad had to work, so I cleaned up the apartment, made Chocolate covered Marshmallows, and waited for him to come home, before walking down the street to the local Earls.

In seeing that it is the day of hearts, it only makes sense to wear red and pink when going out. I opted for a chiffon blouse with pink flowers printed all over it. I bought this blouse from Plum last spring and we did so well with it that we re cut it in several more printed chiffon fabrics. It is such an adorable top with the gathered sleeves and waist. It’s very flowy and feminine, which I thought was perfect for valentines day.

I wore a black cami from Plum underneath the blouse as it is see through. No need to be a whore just because its Valentines Day!

In classic ‘Danielle Going Out’ form, I wore my black denim leggings with my black boots. I’m all about the printed top and the neutral bottoms.

I also wore my metal wire heart from Forever 21 in support to of the theme of LOVE. I’m all about dressing for the occasion.

Happy Love Day!

Slouchy Mrs. Slouch

Both Chad and I managed to have Saturday off this week, so we took advantage of that and headed downtown to get into the Olympic spirit. We wondered our downtown, stopped by Casa Italia, grabbed some food and took in the sights before heading to the parentals house for dinner.

My main concern today was to stay warm while downtown, but I didn’t want to wear anything too bulky, so I just layered a bunch of simple / ‘boring’ tops. Haha.

White tank top, long white t-shirt, and a crew neck, long sleeve top with a kangaroo pocket in black from American Apparel kept me toasty up top. My black top from American Apparel is one of my favorite comfy and warm, yet boring tops. I have an obsession with black crew neck long sleeve tops. Every time I wear them I remember how much I love them and just want to wear them all the time. I layered my green handkerchief scarf over top, just for some colour and interest. I like the combination. I’m a simple girl.

It’s hard to tell, but I am wearing my navy blue Demin Leggings with my Fryes and Chads brown leather belt. I’m obviously drawn to rough and tough kinds of looks. Today was no different.

Just a simple look, for a simple girl, on a day spent hanging out downtown!

Day 42-5

Wednesday into Thursday

After posting last night, I went and had a quick shower, and then headed off to bed. This meant very wet hair + sleep = very back hair day. I was so cold last night, probably due to all the wet hair, that I piled all the sheets on top of me and slept in a heap. This obviously added to the very random and bad hair day.

To add insult to injury, I woke up with a pretty bad stomach ache, that didn’t go away until lunch time, and when I don’t feel good, I don’t look good, and I don’t dress good.

With this theme of me freezing my butt off carrying over to this morning, I opted, for what I like to call, my Aspen Sweater. As soon as I saw it I thought of Aspen, which then made me think of Dumb and Dumber, but that is besides the point. The print of the sweater is so ‘grab a hot chocolate and sit by the fire in your log cabin while looking our a great big window to the snowy mountains ahead’. The shape of the sweater is also really fun. As you can see it is a big rectangle with sleeves that drapes when you let it down. It is pretty fun to play with and oh so cozy. I figured, with the Winter Olympics one day away, pretending I was on a snowy mountain in a log cabin was the right thing to do.

I kept the rest of my outfit pretty simple, since I was pretty lame this morning and just wore a basic crew neck t-shirt under neither, my Mavi jeans and checkered Vans. I also grabbed Chads belt at the last minute since I wasn’t wearing any jewellery. Chad now hates how obsessed I am with his belt and has laid claim to it again.

Let’s hope tomorrow is a better day :)

Under the Olympic Weather

You must forgive my appearance in these pictures. It’s been a long day and I’m not feeling up to snuff. Just got home from watching the dress rehearsal for the Opening Ceremonies and I am cold, wet, and super tired, but the performance was amazing and I can’t wait for the world to see it Friday night!

The heat hasn’t been on all day, since no one has been home, and there is no point in turning it on since I’m going to bed in 5 minutes so I’m going to make this quick since it is freezing in here!!!

We were told as part of attending this event tonight we all had to wear white. I assumed they were going to use the audience as a backdrop for something, hence the white. Unfortunately for me, the only white I own is mainly summery and not at all weather appropriate for right now. This presented a challenge, a challenge I didn’t overly accept all that well.

Last Spring, Kersh made these great over sized, tent like tank tops that I adore, but they are so over sized (on me anyways) that you have to layer them with another tank top underneath. It looks pretty cool actually, even though you can’t tell from the pictures. Since all my white t-shirts are looking pretty ghetto these days, and desperately need replacement, I went for the two tank top look.

To have some sort of warmth I decided to wear this really cute 3/4 length sweater I got as a gift for Christmas one year, which I think its from Off the Wall. It is super cute and worked well with the ‘oversized’ tank tops. I know it’s not white, but come on people. I’m Italian, I own a lot of black.

To add a bit of pattern I wore my White and Black heart scarf. I felt that was appropriate considering it’s pretty white. Then to add a bit of shine I wore my favorite seagull necklace.

Navy denim leggings round out the bottom with my fun Black and White plaid boots.

Despite not being TOTALLY white, I think I did a good enough job!
