The Last Night Out
Well, with the last Saturday of the Olympics here, we decided to go out for a quick jaunt in the city. Chad hadn’t seen the torch yet, so we headed down there to Gastown and then out for a quick beer, at a less then impressive drinking establishment.
Nothing but Olympic gear here and a red lumberjack hat I got from Bluenotes!
Showing my Canadian Spirit with Red Plaid!
Under the Olympic Weather
You must forgive my appearance in these pictures. It’s been a long day and I’m not feeling up to snuff. Just got home from watching the dress rehearsal for the Opening Ceremonies and I am cold, wet, and super tired, but the performance was amazing and I can’t wait for the world to see it Friday night!
The heat hasn’t been on all day, since no one has been home, and there is no point in turning it on since I’m going to bed in 5 minutes so I’m going to make this quick since it is freezing in here!!!
We were told as part of attending this event tonight we all had to wear white. I assumed they were going to use the audience as a backdrop for something, hence the white. Unfortunately for me, the only white I own is mainly summery and not at all weather appropriate for right now. This presented a challenge, a challenge I didn’t overly accept all that well.
Last Spring, Kersh made these great over sized, tent like tank tops that I adore, but they are so over sized (on me anyways) that you have to layer them with another tank top underneath. It looks pretty cool actually, even though you can’t tell from the pictures. Since all my white t-shirts are looking pretty ghetto these days, and desperately need replacement, I went for the two tank top look.
To have some sort of warmth I decided to wear this really cute 3/4 length sweater I got as a gift for Christmas one year, which I think its from Off the Wall. It is super cute and worked well with the ‘oversized’ tank tops. I know it’s not white, but come on people. I’m Italian, I own a lot of black.
To add a bit of pattern I wore my White and Black heart scarf. I felt that was appropriate considering it’s pretty white. Then to add a bit of shine I wore my favorite seagull necklace.
Navy denim leggings round out the bottom with my fun Black and White plaid boots.
Despite not being TOTALLY white, I think I did a good enough job!
Lets Call a Spade, a Spade
It is a truth universally acknowledged that when committed to taking a photo of yourself every day, there will be more then a fare share of bad photos. Enter, today. I really need to learn to take pictures of myself at the beginning of the day, when I look fresh and pretty, and not at the end of the day, when all my make up has worn off and my hair looks greasy. Le Sigh.
It has been very busy at work with Inventory this week, so I’m a little behind on a lot of things!
This sweater I bought from work during a sample sale. During the year, our designer and merchandiser will take trips to the US and purchase pieces that they find interesting and different then what they find up here. Then they take these pieces and redesign them using our own fabrics and put them into production. It’s like buying something, becoming inspired by it, and then making it your own. Once they are done with the original purchased piece they usually sell it at a sample sale. Most of the time the labels and things are removed from the garments, so I don’t actually know where this sweater came from, but I love it none the less. It is very boat neck, to the point of being off the shoulder, and bat winged. You can stretch it out so it covers a big portion of your body, or you can wear it slouchy and relaxed like I did.
As with most boat neck pieces, in the winter months I just wear a white t-shirt underneith and let the sweater fall where it may. The t-shirt actually helps the sweater grip to the body more and not fall off the shoulders.
I paired this sweater with my black Mavi Denim Leggings and then wore a simple skinny braided black belt around the bottom to add a little bit of detail.
I wore my plaid fabric boots from Spring and a clear beaded necklace to fulfil a true monochromatic look. The necklace, I think I got from Ardenes, many years ago. I just love wearing it because it’s like wearing a bunch of marbles around your neck.
To add a tiny bit of colour, I wore a hair pin I bought at Anthropologie.
Now, hopefully tomorrow I will be a little more organized!
The Sleepover
Stayed over at my cousins house last night after dinner and drinks. It made sense to leave the boys at the pub and head home early to watch a movie and have a pillow fight before going to bed (HA). We spent the morning attending a wedding dress fitting and the afternoon looking for bridesmaids dresses at the mall.
Because I was going to be attending a sleepover, and was then going to be shopping all day, I didn’t plan an exciting outfit. Instead I threw a t-shirt and sweater into a bag and headed out. This means my bottom half is just a repeat of yesterday.
My plaid CANUCK t-shirt is from The Bay and, as you may have guessed, is part of their Olympic Merch. If this shirt doesn’t scream ‘DANIELLE’ I don’t know what does. Red plaid on a grey t-shirt that says Canuck. Perfection. The shirt was part of a Christmas present the In-Laws got me and today was the first time I wore it. The fabric in this t-shirt is amazing and it is so comfy. I love good quality t-shirt fabric.
The sweater is from Plum, and I seem to be gravitating to it quite a bit since I’ve already worn it 3 times this year. I think I wear it so much because it is something different then just wearing the same old black sweater over everything. Plus, I love layering shades of grey.
The scarf is also from Plum and was purchased Fall 08. It is knit from two different yarns, so the scarf has great texture.
The bottom, you know, Mavi Serena Denim Leggings in Navy, and my faux Fryes.
Now it’s time to catch up on the sleep I missed out on last night ;)
It’s a Plaid Plaid Monday
The husband is off on a business trip and I am left to ‘man the fort’. The weather outside is gloomy and there is nothing like my favorite print to brighten up a not so bright day.
My fabulously colour plaid shirt dress is from Dish. Not only do they make jeans, but like Mavi, they are also branching out into casual wear. I love the colours of this buffalo plaid and I love the fit of this dress. It’s the perfect length to match with a pair of tights in the fall, but also allows you to be a little more daring with no tights in the spring. I bought this only a few months ago, so I haven’t had the opportunity to go tights-less just yet!
A simple white ‘Wife Beater’ gives the outfit a pop of brightness around the face, while the black tights and black boots (same as I wore on Friday) ground the outfit.
I chose an elastic and vinyl belt to wear at my waist, otherwise the shape of my body would be lost in the over all plaid since I don’t really have curves to define it. The belt brings in definition and visual interest.
I threw on my long black Boyfriend Cardigan from Kersh at the last minute as the office was quite chilly this morning, though I perfer the outfit with out the sweater.
My necklace is actually two necklaces attached to one closure, that I purchased at Forever 21 in LA this past fall. I love all the different pieces attached to it.
Nothing beats plaid on a Monday.
The Blue Scarf
Nothing says cozy Winter warmth like a chunky knit scarf. Chunky knit scarves are my favorite thing to cuddle with on cold Winter days, and I absolutely love the colour of this one that I got at Plum.
I am, of course, wearing the Mavi denim leggings again, paired with my plaid boots that I got last year at Spring. I absolutly love that shoe store.
The light grey t-shirt is from Esprit, layered over a white ‘wife beater’. (You will quickly come to learn that I wear a white wife beater under almost everything. It’s a layer/warm thing.)
The darker grey sweater I got from Plum, and is made out of a light weight knit, very t-shirt like, and isn’t the warmest thing in the world, which is why I had to pair it with the scarf if I had any chance of staying warm today.
The blue beaded necklace I received as a birthday present a few years ago and I believe is from Claires.
It’s all about the blues!
On The Way Out
Off to dinner at my Uncles house for my Nonnas 74th Birthday. Nothing like a little pink Buffalo Plaid to ring in a Birthday celebration!
The top I purchased a Plum along with the basic white ribbed ‘Wife Beater’ underneath. It is one of my favorite going out pieces.
As for my bottoms I am sporting none other them my favorite Mavi Serena Denim Leggings in the Indego. There is nothing better (in my opinion) when it comes to Denim Leggings.
The boots I got at Target for $30, which I love because I wear them all the time.
My Tobias double breasted Pea Coat is from Plum, and my purse just happens to be the one and only Fendi Spy Bag. I did not purchase it (I don’t have that kind of money for fashion!) but my best friend Matt did! He got it for me for Christmas a few years back to ’match’ the Tan wallet he bought me for my Birthday the year before. A friend who will buy you Fendi is the best kind of friend to have around!
I should have taken a better picture of my necklace, but it is a 3D heart wrapped in wire that I got from Forever 21 this past fall when I was in LA. It is definitly one of my obsession pieces.
Other then my Tobias Coat, all these pieces I purchased in Fall 09.
I heart Buffalo Plaid!
