A Day at Work, a Date at Night

It’s a fancy Friday today because we are going out on a double date tonight with my cousins and I knew I wouldn’t have a lot of time in between to get ready and change looks. Plus, I kind of felt like being fancy anyways.

This outfit is basically a copy/variation of the one Claudia put together for our Managers Meeting. It’s such a cute and easy look that you can substitute any knit top and sweater and still look just as great.

I tucked a basic white scoop neck t-shirt into a cute little black tulip skirt and then wrapped a grey belt around it.

I layered this look with a beautiful violet blue sweater. The perfect length for pairing with a short skirt.

The tights I wore were fun, but a giant pain in the butt. They are ‘One Size Fits All’, but far from actually fitting me. They don’t have a lot of hold so even though I pulled them up high (which I do with every pair of tights I have and they always stay) these ones fell down horribly. Not only that but the knee stretched out right away. I was highly annoyed with them. If I was wearing them with boots they wouldn’t have been such a big deal because I would have tucked the excess into the boot, but with heels I had tuck all the excess length really awkwardly into my underwear, as it was the only way to make them stay. It was not a very comfortable day to say the least.

I paired this look with the same black pumps and necklace as I did for the meeting.

The T-Shirt and Tights are from Forever 21.
The shoes are from Aldo.
Everything else is from Plum.

My Head is Fuzzy

I put this on this morning and Chad laughed at my because he thought I would freeze my but off. “Shorts when its been raining none stop!? Have fun with that!” Oh, I did have fun, thank you!

I definitely felt like a cowgirl today. I love this outfit even if people don’t understand it! Ha, it’s not that hard to understand.

That’s my little herb garden in the corner. It has been suffocated with rain lately and I really hope it doesn’t die. I can’t wait for my big herb pot to be planted! It’s going to be one tasty Summer!

So, I’ve got my over sized Boyfriend shirt layered over a tank top (both purchased at Plum), tucked into my denim shorts (purchased at Heritage 1981), which are worn over my black spotted tights (purchased at Forever 21), tucked into my faux fryes. Did you catch all of that?

The belt is Chads of course, and the necklace he bought me while on a trip to Korea.

Tucking blouses into shorts. It’s genius I tell you.

Today’s pictures actually turned out well, and that makes me happy :)

This post is a good example of how my head is fuzzy.

Patterns and Textures

I loved today’s outfit. It was kind of out there for me, mixing so much pattern and texture, but I just loved wearing it.

I’m so glad I bought these tights. They are lace tights (obviously) but they are footless, so you can wear them under a long top, or skirt, and easily pair them with flip flops or sandals, which I am excited to try out. I bought them from Plum, and they are from a line called T-Party. T-Party is a company from the States that we buy a lot of our printed Ts from. I think these tights were an awesome find. I am so obsessed with them!

The shirt dress is from Dish and it is so comfy and fun! I paired it with a faux leather wrap belt I bought while I was in Australia. I bought one in black and one in teal and I recently discovered them again. They add such great detail.

I know I said I don’t like mixing Black and Brown, but my one exception is Leather. I was originally going to wear a pair of black flats but my faux fryes were screaming at me to be worn. I thought they would add a bit of a funkier element to this outfit.

I’ve also got a small silver necklace one, but you can’t really tell.

I kind of want to wear this outfit everyday.

The Day of Death

Holy Smokes, was I sick today. My second dose of thyroid shots, which have the side effect of nausea, took full side effect on me. It didn’t hit me right away, but it came on fast and furious after lunch. Its been a while since Ive been that sick, stomach wise.

I should have taken a picture this morning, because once the nausea came on, I wasn’t able to stand for 5 minutes together. Its too bad too, cause I really liked todays outfit.

Birds of Paradise

I had dinner with Mr. Burwell tonight. Pasta and Wine for two with a little TV trash on the side. I asked him to take my photos but he didn’t like me using the flash and wanted to make them more artsy, hence the variety.

I would just like to point out that I was told it was suppose to be ‘clear’ today with no rain, hence the outfit chosen Well, I was totally lied to. Walking down the street to get dinner I FROZE. Even with my jacket on. Where have you gone, April?

Since this dress from Plum, is pretty much amazing, I know I will be wearing it a lot this Spring/Summer, so I need to think of new and creative ways of wearing it. Today, I decided to do a bit of mixing and matching.

The elastic in the middle of the dress is meant to sit at the natural waist, but I wore it higher at the empire waist.

I threw on a little fuchsia sweater from Kersh to pick up the bright colours in the dress.

The polka dot tights look really cute with this dress, the only problem is that the underside of the dress constantly got caught on the tights. I think it was partially because of static and partially because both fabrics were a little rough and kept catching. It was the most annoying thing ever. Every time I moved the dress was awkwardly stuck to me. Not fun!

I decided to wear my faux fryes, because I am on a faux frye kick and I kind of like the way the look with dresses. Different and unexpected.

I definitely love this look. I just wish my tights and dress would have cooperated!

Another Important Day

Way to look the same again!

It was another big Church day today, hence the dress. I know, I know, I’m actually in a dress!

Chad was baptised at mass tonight and I was his Godmother, so I had to look the part.

The dress I bought at Plum. It was a little long for me so I hemmed it before going out. I’ll do a little post on that too.

It is super cute with out tights but it was cold out so they were a must. They are so dark you can’t even tell what shoes I’m wearing. My Mom thought I was wearing really high boots. Ha, way to pay attention!

I also wore a little black cami underneath, since you know, we were going to Church and all. Didn’t want to be too ‘exposed’.

My hair is really long.

No Matter What, They Are Not Pants!

Posted by Danielle Ciavarro under Trends

The trend of wearing Tights and Leggings has been around for a while now. They are a great accessory that make outfits fun and comfortable while still being fashionable. They come in so many different colours and prints now a days, that you have an unlimited amount of choices.

The only problem I find these days, is that people are getting lazy and are using tights/leggings as an excuse.

In certain jobs, where wearing jeans is not permitted, people have started to take the lazy route, and instead of putting together an outfit centered around a ‘career’ outfit, like dress pants or a skirt, they just stick on a pair of leggings and some random top and go. That is not the point of the ‘No Jeans’ rule people, the point is to get you to dress appropriately for your job, to dress like you have a career. There is nothing more unprofessional then walking into a business where someone is wearing a pair of leggings as pants, with a dressy top. No one needs to see your Camel toe at work!

This brings me to my biggest pet peeve.

And not just tights, leggings for that matter as well. While Leggings and Tights are two different things, I don’t think either of them should be worn as pants.

What does that mean exactly?

You must ALWAYS wear a top that covers your butt and crotch, no matter what. No one needs to stop and realized that there is nothing but a very thin piece of fabric between your backside/frontside and the rest of the world. Why not put another piece of fabric in the way, just for extra protection.

Above are two examples that, in my books, are never allowed to happen.

Thankfully, Skinny Jeans, and Denim Leggings are thick enough  to allow for the right amount of ‘backseat’ and Camel Toe protection against the world, but other then that, everything should be worn with a long or over sized shirt that covers you up!

Think about this the next time you get dressed!

Snake Skin and Tights

Ok, I am fully sold on this whole shorts and tights business. I am obsessed.

These black dotted tights are the ones I got from Forever 21 last week. $6 a pair!

This time around I paired my tights with a pair of cotton shorts I bought at Plum. I love Plums shorts. They always fit me perfectly and hit me at just the right length.

I wore a basic white t-shirt and layered it over top with a Kersh Ribbed Waist Cardigan in Royal Blue. The colour in all these photos is off. Damn Camera.

I then found a dark purple/red snake skin belt that I bought at Value Village and wore it around my waist.

My sporty black flats worked perfectly with this outfit to make it fun and fashionable.

I now want to wear shorts and tights with everything!

Tights & Shorts

So we have all seen this trend at some point in our lives. I’ve seen quite a few people lately pulling off the whole ‘Tights & Shorts’ phenomenon, and every time I see it I get inspired and want to try it, but it’s a matter of pairing the right shorts, with the right tights, with the right shoes, and there is something very daunting about that.

Finally I got my butt in gear and decided to just try it out!

I bought these great shorts last September in LA from a store called Heritage 1981, which is owned by the same company as Forever 21. I’ve often found it hard buying shorts because a lot of them never fit me properly and I always have trouble finding the right length for my proportions. I finally found these beauties and fell in love.

I paired the shorts with some basic black tights I bought at Plum and my Faux Fryes.

On top I wore a grey t-shirt from Espirt and a purple ribbed waist cardigan from Kersh, paired with a fun multi coloured scarf from Le Chateau.

I thought it turned out pretty good. I want to buy some printed tights and try that next time as well.

I quite like the idea of tights and shorts now that I’ve tried it out. I think paired with the right top and shoes it can be a fun and stylish use of shorts in the winter months!

Hall Way Chit Chat

It’s hard to be positive on a Wednesday when everything around you is going wrong! I actually surprised myself with how positive I was despite the amount of failure all around me. I’m hoping to just coast through the rest of the night and then relax in bed with a book. I also stopped by the Sweet Factory on the way home to get myself a little treat.

The inspiration behind this outfit was the grey Kersh 3/4 length sleeve Boyfriend Cardigan that I bought a few years back to wear as an optional dress. Well I never actually wore it as a dress, partially because two buttons fell off and I never sewed them back on, that was, until today! (P.S. don’t let the pictures fool you, the real shade of this sweater is shown best in the picture of my necklace).

I kept the outfit light and wore two ribbed tank tops underneath. The white one is from Plum and the Teal one is from Abercrombie and Fitch. I absolutely LOVE the colour of the teal one. I bought it many years ago in New York and I’ve held onto it ever since. It is such a great spring colour that livens up the outfit. Layering two tank tops is also a great way to add  dimension to any outfit.

A simple pair of black tights and black boots make the bottom easy, and a great grey belt from Plum adds interest to the waist. It’s important when wearing tight fitting ‘dresses’ like this to not loose the shape of your body.

I played up my jewellery a bit more and wore the zebra print earrings I bought from Aldo. Such a great piece. I paired if off with an old necklace and key combo, again, a throw back to my Value Village days. Matt bought me the chain and then found an old key which he painted black. The key is worn now which gives it a great antique effect.

I love the combinations going on in this outfit and it’s so fun to wear!

Bad day. Stellar outfit!
